NSW Police Force

PAUL CHARLES is a Security Consultant specialising in all aspects of security risk assessment and advice. Paul has an electrical trade background followed by a 20 year career with the New South Wales Police Force where he attained the rank of Detective Inspector. He was awarded the National Medal and the Police Service Medal. Paul held command positions in various Criminal Investigation units in the metropolitan area, highlighted with his role as Commander of the South Western Sydney Armed Holdup Operation. Paul has extensive experience in all facets of criminal investigation including homicide, fraud and major property crime.

• Paul is a qualified Senior Police Bomb Disposal Technician with extensive experience as a member of the Bomb Response Unit for the Sydney Olympic Games. He acted as a consultant to all major Olympic Venue Commanders regarding bomb searching and screening procedures and initiated Bomb Incident Management Plans for the Major Olympic venues.

• Paul has been trained by the Australian Defence Force in Chemical, Biological and Radiological weapons response.

• Paul has held the prestigious role as a Visiting Fellow with the NSW Police College specialising in Emergency Management, Public Order Management, Critical Incident and Media Management.


In 2005 Paul joined Westfield as the Security Manager of the Sydney CBD properties including the iconic Sydney Centrepoint Tower. He managed the largest retail security contract in Australia and initiated and managed the upgrade of CCTV and access control systems for many Westfield properties.

NSW RailCorp

In 2007 Paul took on a Consultant Security Project Manager role with RailCorp where he managed the rollout of high end identification cameras across the entire City Rail network. This system is now integrated into the NSW Police Facial Recognition platform. Whilst at RailCorp, he managed the trial and selection process for the Tunnel Intruder Detection System trialing technology such as Scanning Laser, military grade Thermal Imaging, Video Analytics and Motion Detection.

Commonwealth Bank

In 2008 Paul joined the Commonwealth Bank of Australia as the Executive Manager – Protective Security for all CBA interests globally. Paul was accountable for all aspects protective security across the retail, commercial and executive personal protection. His role extended to the design and build oversight of all electronic and physical security measures for retail branches, ATM locations and corporate sites both locally and abroad. Paul was instrumental in the design and deployment of countermeasures to combat the emergence of ATM Gas Attacks followed closely by a similar role in the development of ATM Skimmer Detection Technology.
